Alona Beach is a beautiful place... it's been raining on and off every day so when the sun is out it is a real treat. I've included some pics that were taken in Manila and here.
While in Manila I met Henry's friends- Ninita, Monica, Lyssa and Nicole, Lyssa's sister. They are all from the Visayas, south of Luzon, living in Manila. They are fun-loving people who laugh, joke and enjoy life even though life in Manila is not so easy. Lyssa is a marketing consultant and Nicole works in an Italian restaurant. Ninita's daughter, Monica, is one of the happiest 3 years-olds I have ever seen. She laughs all day long and enjoys the simplest things that only a 3 year-old can enjoy. I find it fascinating that when Ninita talks to here daughter she switches back and forth between 3 languages: Tagalog, Visayan and English. Only a young child could absorb this information so easily.
Last Saturday we we took the one hour flight from Manila to Tagbilarin on Bohol. Life is so much more relaxed in the provinces. The people are very friendly and enjoy a much slower rhythm of life.
Had a great dinner last night at a local restaurant. It was a good change from the "ok" food on the beach, and much cheaper. Chicken Adobo, $2.50; Noodle soup, $2; grilled squid, $5; very large grilled prawns and rice, $4. Amazing prices and was very fresh too.
Finally went for a dive yesterday... to two spots called Diver's Heaven and Black Coral Garden. First dive disappointing, but second was just wonderful with many large fish, unspoiled coral heads, many blue starfish and huge anemones. Well worth the effort of the 35 minutes boat ride out to the reef.
Today will be a day to relax and take it real slow. Tomorrow we're off to Cebu City.
